This GA applies to all G specifications covering forgings and/or metal stock. Metal stock (see AS7766) is used here to refer to the following wrought product forms: bar, rod, wire, plate, sheet, strip, billet, extruded shapes, drawn shapes, and mechanical tubing. This GA does not apply to castings, powder, sintered powder metal parts, seamless tubing, or welded tubing.
Rationale: Task group consensus and recommendation is to keep lot definition in the material specification (rather than defaulting to generic language in AMS2368) and align on lot definition language similar to that found in AMS4965M. It was also requested that part number be included in the lot definition for forgings (AMS4920G refers to part number only while AMS4973J and AMS4976L refer to nominal size only). Implementation of this GA will standardize lot definition across similar material forms to incorporate best practices.
