This standard established the requirements and test procedures for the operational life, corrosion resistence, and sound pressure level of motorcycle electric and electro pnuematic audible warning deveices. Test equipment, environment, and procedures are specified.
Rationale: The Motorcycle Technical Steering Committee discussed the need for this standard for many years for motorcycle specific cases and applications. A pre-existing draft of this prposed standard was examined and updated in 2007-2009 on the basis of motorcycle specific testing and a research study of existing AWD standards throughout the world, including SAE J377. There was a consensus at the committee level that a motorcycle specific recommended practice would useful.
