SAE J1362 presents graphical symbols for use on operator controls and other displays on off-road work machines as defined in SAE J1116 plus mobile cranes but excluding agricultural tractors. Symbols for agricultural tractors are covered by ASABE S304, ISO 3767-1, and ISO 3767-2.
Rationale:
SAE J1362 is extensively revised as a result of recent new editions of a number of ISO standards, including ISO 3767-1, ISO 3767-2, ISO 3767-4, ISO 6405-1, and ISO 6405-2. SAE J1362 is reorganized to show only symbols, approved by SAE Human Factors Technical Committee 2, which are not published in the cited ISO standards. Symbols published in the cited ISO standards are referenced to those standards.

SAE 1362 presents graphical symbols for use on operator controls and other displays on construction, general purpose industrial, agricultural, forestry, and specialized mining categories of off-road self-propelled work machines, as defined in SAE J1116. Symbols for agricultural equipment other than the basic agricultural tractor (for example, combine harvesters, cotton harvesters, forage harvesters, balers and sprayers) are covered by ASAE S304 and are therefore excluded from the scope of SAE J1362.
