Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) Charge Rate Reporting
This document is intended to provide a clear comparison of the best-case, yet realistic, DC charging capabilities of passenger vehicles and PEV Supply Equipment (EVSE) intended for passenger vehicles. A single common test procedure and metric will be established for both vehicles or EVSEs operating without limitations in best case conditions. This document does not attempt to address issues of PEV-EVSE interactions in real-time variations such as extreme temperatures, variable SoCs, and so on.
Rationale: The market for fully electric vehicles is developing quickly and with it the advertising of DC charging (aka “DC Fast Charging” or “DCFC”) plays a prominent role. Presently, there are many metrics by which the DC charging capability of both vehicles and EVSE are advertised with no general standard, leaving the customer unable to unambiguously compare vehicles or EVSEs when purchasing or using. This document will provide common test procedures to measure the best-case, yet real-world capabilities of vehicles and EVSEs for the consumer and press to use for clear comparisons. This document is relevant to passenger cars.
