Rationale: During the revision of ANSI/SAE Z26.1-1996 and its further development into SAE J3097 TM/ANSI Z26.1-2019-05, a large number of materials were reviewed and working documents created by the Task Force members developing the new standard. These materials included other standards, both domestic and international, government notices, general concepts, definitions, test methods, acceptance criteria, diagrams, spreadsheets, charts, and other informational materials. In order to preserve these materials which were used in the decision-making and document development process, and give a better understanding of the background of J3097, these materials are to be contained within a document as an informational supplement to J3097.
