Application Protocol and Requirements for Maneuver Sharing and Coordinating Service
J3186
This project will provide requirements to support applications for the Maneuver Sharing and Coordinating service (MSCS) beyond broadcast of Basic Safety Messages. This is to improve road safety and traffic efficiency by sharing and coordinating vehicle maneuvers via V2V, V2I and/or V2P communications. The document will lay out V2X application protocols, systems and use case scenarios for MSCS. It will define message sets for MSCS, where the effort may result in identifying new message types, data frames and data elements for SAE J2735. Communication handshaking protocols and system requirements using radio technologies, e.g. 5G NR V2X, will be specified. Work and concepts from other standard development organizations and projects will be taken into account. This project is expected to result in a standard document for V2X MSCS as well as suggested updates to SAE J2735.
Rationale: It is intended to provide advanced ways to improve road safety and traffic efficiency which are expected to be one of the most important roles for the high level autonomous driving.
