V2X Sensor-Sharing for Cooperative & Automated Driving
This project will provide requirements for a sensor-sharing message suitable for V2X-entities (RSUs, vehicles, VRUs) to describe detected road users, road obstacles and road impairments. The proposed work will define message structure, originating V2X entity requirements, information elements required to describe detected objects, including any changes identified for the J2735 data dictionary
The proposed message will be designed in coordination with other SAE relevant projects and other SDO sensor-sharing efforts. This project is expected to result in a new message definition and recommended updates to J2735.
Rationale: Accurate knowledge of road conditions, road obstacles and road users is required for RSUs and vehicles to make safe and efficient driving decisions. Cooperative and autonomous driving through vehicle-to-vehicle or RSU-to-vehicle communication requires accurate knowledge of the driving environment. Defining a message structure and information elements for RSUs and V2X vehicles to exchange information on detected objects and road users is a prerequisite for these capabilities.
