Directional Flashing Optical Warning Devices for Authorized Emergency, Maintenance, and Service Vehicles
This document provides design guidelines, test procedure references, and performance requirements for flashing incandescent warning lamps. It is intended to apply to, but is not limited to, surface land vehicles. The purpose of this document is to establish general requirements for flashing warning lamps for use on authorize emergency, maintenance, and service vehicles.
Rationale: 1.1 Rationale
1. Section 5. Tests changed by adding voltage requirements of portable devices. These types of devices shall be tested with voltage applied to the plug or connector. This is the same language as agreed to for SAE J845.
2. Section 5.5 Additional Tests changed by requiring that the flash rate be measured 1 minute after device is activated not 3 minutes. This is the same language as agreed to for SAE J845.
3. Section 6.4 Color changed by specifying that the blue boundary of white is to be x = 0.300. This was necessary due to referenced SAE J578 blue boundary of white being moved from x = 0.300 to x = 0.310.
