The role of the SAE Truck and Bus Council (T&BC) is to serve the industry, the public, and the government by initiating, reviewing and approving the SAE Technical Reports (Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports) related to medium and heavy duty trucks, truck-tractors, trailers and buses with Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings greater than 4,536 Kilogram (10,000 lbs.). It is also the role of the T&BC to strategically guide the development of such Technical Reports. All T&BC Technical Reports shall be based upon established engineering and scientific principals and be supported by consensus based peer reviews. The goal is to provide accurate, consistent, and complete Technical Reports which lead to development of safer, better performing and more efficient vehicle components, accessories, and systems, to verify the compatibility of their interactions, and to promote capable test equipment, facilities, and instrumentation technology for use in all Technical Reports. The SAE T&BC, through its Committees, will actively attempt to harmonize its Technical Reports with standards of other standards developing organizations throughout the world. All activity shall be done on behalf of and in accordance with the SAE Technical Standards Board Governance Policy, the SAE International policies and the SAE International intellectual property policy.
