The SAE J1939 Hybrid Communications Task Force (Task Force) and the SAE Truck and Bus Control and Communications Network Committee (SAE J1939 Committee) are reaching out to Industry to seek and encourage participation in prototyping activities to prove out and refine SAE J1939 based communications for hybrid systems. In the context of the Task Force development, "hybrid system" refers to a power system that can draw stationary or propulsion energy from any combination of on-vehicle sources of stored energy, i.e. consumable fuels and energy storage devices, such as a battery, capacitor, or flywheel. Depending on the level of industry response to this prototyping request, the final release and official publication of the J1939 messages for the hybrid power system interface are expected in the mid-2014 timeframe.
