The Cooperative Vehicle Task Force is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Technical Reports applicable to short-to-medium-range wireless communication protocols specifically designed to support Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) and higher levels of cooperative automation (such as platooning) functionalities. This task force reports to the SAE Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) Technical Committee (TC). The task force also: - acts as a liaison to the other organizations involved in the CACC/platooning effort, - helps identify and recommend common message set standards and performance requirements, and - organizes the initial effort of gathering "use cases" and distributes them to the DSRC TC and other relevant technical groups of interest, defining work boundaries. The Cooperative Automation Task Force of the DSRC Committee is working on the messages exchanged with external entities (other vehicles, infrastructure) by the cooperative automation systems while the ORAV Committee is working on the internal architecture of the automation systems.
