Overview
The goal of this task force is to develop methodologies and procedures for ensuring that surrogate targets intended for use in tests of active safety systems present, to the systems being evaluated, characteristics that are suitably representative of the real world objects they are intended to represent. This task force will develop a methodology and procedure to validate active safety test targets and correlate them to the objects they are intended to represent. This will require a means of measuring the test target and representative object characteristics and specifying acceptability criteria for a test target using that objective characteristic measurement. The validation procedure will determine if the test target has the characteristics as specified in the acceptability criteria. The validation procedure will allow for the validation of targets before, during, and after use in the field. The correlation procedure will indicate the relationship between the test target and the representative objects’ characteristics. Test targets may include cars, pedestrians, motorcycles, bicycles, or any other object that may be encountered by a vehicle.
