Minimum Performance Standard for a Cabin Occupant Personal Oxygen Dispensing Unit for use from 40,000 to 45,000 Feet
This Aerospace Standard (AS5727) will provide the basis for a certification approach and contain the methods or criteria for verification of performance required of Oxygen Dispensing Units for use by cabin occupants in the range of 40,000 to 45,000 ft. cabin altittude. 1.1 Purpose - This AS is intended to identify the performance required of Personal Oxygen Dispensing Units in the range of 40,000 to 45,000 ft.
AS 8025 covers passenger oxygen masks that are typically qualified and limited to a 40,000 ft. maximum ceiling. With modern commercial aircraft reaching above 40,000 ft. cruse altitudes, there is a growing need to consider hypoxia protection above 40,000 ft. cabin altittude for the cabin occupants. Regulations now have considerations that allow exposure of cabin occupants up to a 45,000 ft altittude pressure for a limited time. Clarification and approval criteria of performance requirements for these higher altitudes is needed.
