AS13100 RM13003 Measurement System Analysis (MSA) for Practitioners C2408

Topics: Quality, Safety & Maintenance

AS13100 stipulates requirements to establish an acceptable measurement system for use on aerospace engines parts and assemblies. Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) is used to evaluate and improve measurement systems in the workplace because it evaluates the test method, measuring instruments, and the process of acquiring measurements. The Aerospace Engine Supplier Quality (AESQ) Strategy Group published RM13003 to define the minimum requirements and acceptance limits for conducting MSA for variable attribute assessment on characteristics as defined on the drawing specification.

This two-day course is interactive, giving students practical experience in the nature and types of variation present in shop-floor gauges, and how to conduct measurement systems analysis studies on those variations in gauges.

Learning Objectives

By successfully completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the key elements of measurement system analysis
  • Discuss how AS13003 and AS13100 support measurement systems analysis processes
  • Classify types of variation in measure systems, their impacts, and how they fit into a total measurement approach
  • Complete a variable measurement system study using sample gauges and Mini-Tab® software
  • Analyze the results of a measurement system analysis
  • Interpret the results of a measurement system analysis using graphics and data
  • Identify weaknesses in the organization’s quality management system documented process for measurement system analysis
  • Devise a plan to address shortcomings in the organization’s quality management system documented process for measurement system analysis

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for those who need to demonstrate competency and qualification as MSA practitioners in the deployment of AS13003, as well as those quality professionals who design and document inspection and test processes to AS9145 (APQP).

Others who find this course useful are six sigma practitioners, team leaders and supervisors in aerospace and defense, as well as those who are looking to broaden their awareness of quality tools to improve overall business effectiveness.

Learners will need to bring their own internet-ready laptop and will be provided with a link to a 30-day trial to the Mini-Tab® software for use during the course.

Learners should bring along 10 (ten) components, the relevant inspection gauge, and the specification of at least one characteristic (i.e. the nominal and upper/lower tolerances). This will ensure that all participants will have successfully undertaken at least one GR&R study during the course and will be able to demonstrate competency.
