Functional Safety of Automated Driving Systems Will be the Topic of SAE International Meetup in Milpitas, Calif.

SAE International will hold a Meetup to discuss functional safety in highly automated and driverless systems.
Presented by SAE – Innovations in Mobility and hosted by Infineon, “Functional Safety for Highly Automated Driving Systems” will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Infineon Technologies Corporation, 640 North McCarthy Boulevard, Milpitas, Calif.

Functional safety is one of the biggest challenges for highly automated driving systems, particularly driverless systems, as human operators may not be available to intervene in case of a critical system malfunction. The technology itself must therefore be reliable. For that reason, "Fail Operational" Systems are critical to maintaining functionality in addition to the presence of "Fail-Safe" Systems. Fail Operational Systems are redundant and have independent hardware which can take over immediately. They minimize the risk for loss of service or faulty service through this redundancy and diversity at the system level.

The event will be moderated by Bill Stewart, Director of Safety/ADAS, Infineon Technologies America. Panel members will include:

  • Konrad Kai - Senior Marketing Manager, Infineon Technologies AG
  • Vik Patel - Product Marketing Head, Safety and ADAS, Infineon Technologies Americas
  • Nathan Aschbacher - CoFounder/CEO - Auxon Corporation

Price to attend is $3 per person. To learn more or to register, visit https://www.meetup.com/SAE-Innovations-in-Mobility/events/256402836/.
