U.S. Department of Energy’s Michael Berube Among Industry Leaders to Keynote SAE International’s COMVEC™ 2021 in Rosemont, Ill.

Speakers from the U.S. Department of Energy, Deere & Company, PACCAR Technical Center, and The Ohio State University to Address Sustainability and the Future of the Commercial Vehicle Industry


WARRENDALE, Pa. (August 10, 2021) – SAE International solidified a lineup of four industry experts to speak at COMVEC™ 2021 on energy, sustainability and the future of commercial vehicle transportation. The three-day event on Sept. 14-16 will provide attendees both in-person in Rosemont, Ill., and online the opportunity to participate in panels and presentations held by the experts who drive the latest research and innovations in the industry.

“We are proud to welcome a diverse mix of commercial vehicle experts to speak at COMVEC 2021 – one of the first events where industry can convene and collaborate in-person since the beginning of the pandemic,” said Frank Bokulich, manager of engineering events at SAE International. “This year’s speakers, including the U.S. Department of Energy’s Michael Berube, will initiate critical conversations around energy and sustainability in commercial vehicles and mobility.”

Michael Berube, acting deputy assistant secretary for transportation at the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy, will speak on Thursday, September 16 and address the U.S. Department of Energy’s priorities on the path to transportation decarbonization and the role of commercial vehicles. Berube brings more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, specifically focusing on the areas of environmental compliance, energy and safety policy, product development and marketing.

Other keynote presentations include:

  • Deanna Kovar, vice president of production & precision ag production systems at Deere & Company (Sept. 14): Kovar is addressing how highly automated and loT-connected vehicles are enabling farmers to improve productivity and sustainability.

  • Philip Stephenson, general manager at PACCAR Technical Center (Sept. 15): Stephenson will discuss the topic of electrification and commercial vehicles.

  • Chris Atkinson, Sc.D., director of the Smart Mobility Initiative and professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at The Ohio State University (Sept. 15): Atkinson is giving the Ray Buckendale Lecture, an annual SAE lecture that deals with ground vehicles for either on- or off-road operation in either commercial or military service.
