All of the papers in this special issue aim to discuss emerging simulation methodologies and tools that can be applied by industry, government, and academia, to study ADS performance and impact on overall traffic systems.

The SAE International Journal of Connected and Automated Vehicles furthers state-of-the-art engineering research by publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles that showcase strong theoretical and empirical contributions and findings to the body of engineering knowledge surrounding various facets of the lifecycle treatment of connected and automated vehicles with an emphasis on the system perspective.

Part 2 of this special issue focuses on applications including eco-driving, vehicle analytics, vehicle control, and safety validation along with a contribution on high-definition road networks. The articles selected in both Part 1 and Part 2 of this special issue will expose the reader to several proposed frameworks that address the ultimate problem with different, yet innovative, approaches.
