Controlled Load Transfer during Braking on a Four-Spring Trailer Suspension 852344

Four-spring tandem axle trailer suspensions are known to exhibit interaxle load transfer during braking. The load is transferred through the load leveler or equalizer beam used to balance axle loads during normal operation with the brakes not applied. An explanation of the major geometric parameters which contribute to this brake load transfer is presented. An alternative geometry which allows positive control of brake load transfer is presented.
