Numerical Analysis of Gasoline Engine Coolant Flow 950274

A commercial CFD code is used to calculate a complex engine coolant flow in a new poppet-valved type two-stroke gasoline engine. A simple design analysis method by solving a coolant flow only in a cylinder block is suggested to effectively analyze flow distributions. The complex cylinder head geometry is modelled as a simple plenum chamber-like box so that a design analysis time can be shortened greatly. Even though detailed flow behaviour in the actual cylinder head cannot be analyzed, the important design parameters, such as flow rates through cylinder head gasket holes and flow distributions in the water jacket of the cylinder block, can be analyzed effectively.
