Low-Duty Inertia Dynamometer Hydraulic Brake Wear Test Procedures for Vehicles Above 4536 kg (10000 pounds) of GVWR

2024-04-24
WIP
J3006
This Recommended Practice is derived from OEM and tier-1 laboratory tests and applies to two-axle multipurpose passenger vehicles, or trucks with a GVWR above 4536 kg (10 000 pounds) equipped with hydraulic disc or drum service brakes. Before conducting testing for a specific brake sizes or under specific test conditions, review, agree upon, and document with the test requestor any deviations from the test procedure. Also, the applicable criteria for the final test results and wear rates deemed as significantly different require definition, assessment, and proper documentation; especially as this will determine whether or not Method B testing is needed. This Recommended Practice does not evaluate or quantify other brake system characteristics such as performance, noise, judder, ABS performance, or braking under extreme temperatures or speeds. Minimum performance requirements are not part of this recommended practice.

AVSC Best Practice for First Responder Interactions with Fleet-Managed Automated Driving System-Dedicated Vehicles (ADS-DVs)

2024-04-04
CURRENT
AVSC-I-01-2024
This AVSC best practice was first published in 2020 and has been revised to cast expanded role definitions, rearrangement of use cases in Section 4 based on severity of risk, re-creation of Table 4 in 5.4 as a checklist and moved to Appendix B, as well as clarification of sections, examples, and terms throughout the document. This document outlines interactions between first responders and ADS-DVs (SAE level 4 and level 5). It builds on earlier work done by the Crash Avoidance Metrics Partners (CAMP), detailing three types of interactions first responders may encounter: direct, indirect, and informational. In addition, a standardized framework with recommendations for an interaction plan is laid out for ADS developers, manufacturers, and fleet operators which may assist first responders in both emergency and non-emergency situations involving ADS-DVs.

Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking XIL Simulation Procedure and Minimum Performance Requirements - Truck and Bus

2024-03-25
WIP
J3319
This SAE Recommended Practice (RP) establishes uniform vehicle level simulation procedure for Forward Collision Avoidance and Mitigation (FCAM) systems (also identified as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems) used in highway commercial vehicles and coaches greater than 4535 Kg (10,000 lb.) GVWR. For Hardware-in-the-loop implementation of the recommended practice, the ESC system will be part of the test. This RP does not apply to trailers, dollies, etc. and does not intend to exclude any particular system or sensor technology. These FCAM systems utilize various methodologies to identify, track and communicate data to the operator and vehicle systems to warn, intervene and/or mitigate in the longitudinal control of the vehicle.

Ambulance Patient Compartment Seated Occupant Excursion Zone Evaluation

2024-01-19
CURRENT
J3059_202401
This SAE Information Report describes the testing and reporting procedures that may be used to evaluate and document the excursion of a worker or civilian when transported in a seated and restrained position in the patient compartment of a ground ambulance when exposed to a front, side, or rear impact. Its purpose is to provide seating and occupant restraint manufacturers, ambulance builders, and end-users with testing procedures and documentation methods needed to identify head travel paths in crash loading events. This is a component level test. The seating system is tested in free space to measure maximum head travel paths. The purpose is not to identify stay out zones. Rather, the goal is to provide ambulance manufacturers with the data needed to design safer and functionally sound workstations for Emergency Medical Service workers so that workers are better able to safely perform patient care tasks in a moving ambulance.
