Transmission and driveline products for new energy vehicles are different in many aspects from their counterparts in traditional vehicles. The 2-day foundational-level Fundamentals of GD&T course teaches the terms, rules, symbols, and concepts of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as prescribed in the ASME Y14.5M-1994 Standard. The class offers an explanation of geometric symbols, including each symbol’s requirements, tolerance zones, and limitations. It compares GD&T to coordinate tolerancing, Rules #1 and #2; form and orientation controls; tolerance of position; runout and profile controls. Newly acquired learning is reinforced throughout the class with more than 100 practice problems using industrial drawings.

Model-Based Development and Verification (MBDV) technology has been widely accepted in software production. When this technology is used in airborne software, key issues should be considered to ensure airworthiness and safety goals are met. To facilitate the use the MBDV technology, RTCA DO-331 is published as a supplement and guidance support to DO-178C. Because MBDV is regularly used in critical software applications, guidance is needed to apply it to airborne software.

Tire and Wheel Safety Issues

One of the most important safety critical components on cars, trucks, and aircraft is the pneumatic tire. Vehicle tires primarily control stopping distances on wet and dry roads or runways and strongly influence over-steer/under-steer behavior in handling maneuvers of cars and trucks. The inflated tire-wheel assembly also acts as a pressure vessel that releases a large amount of energy when catastrophically deflated. The tire can also serve as a fulcrum, both directly and indirectly, in contributing to vehicle rollover. This course covers these facets of tire safety phenomena.
