Mechanical Control Cable Modeling and Simulation to Predict the Load Loss and Deformation

2023-11-10
2023-28-0168
Mechanical control cables or Bowden cables are widely used in various applications for push-pull actions of mechanical systems. In mid-segment tractors, the linkage systems are designed along with control cables to actuate controls such as throttle, braking, transmission shift, position control, etc. due to its design flexibility. Output force and travel efficiency are two major performance parameters that depend on the routing, cable design composition, friction material, load transfer, etc. Virtual simulations can be used to predict cable performance and efficiency. There are different methodologies currently used to model the cable. These available methods can accurately predict either performance or travel efficiency. There is no method available in-house to predict both these parameters. In this paper, a new cable modeling method is proposed by authors using multi-body simulation (MBS) software MSC ADAMS.

Finite Element Analysis and Correlation with Physical Test of Tractor Hood Bang Endurance Test

Tractors primarily serve agricultural functions but are also employed in various other applications such as loading, construction, and hauling. Tractors comprise several key assembly, including the engine, transmission, front hood assembly, and skid, among others. The hood is a critical assembly of the tractor, enclosing the engine and its associated parts. It is constructed from sheet metal with a 'Class A' surface finish for aesthetic purposes. The Hood is locked using latch mechanism mounted on the tractor chassis. The primary function of the hood is to facilitate the opening and closing of the hood assembly during servicing, and it often undergoes rough handling. Therefore, it becomes imperative to validate the durability of the hood assembly to ensure it can withstand the real-world conditions it encounters during these operations.

Field Failure Resolution of a Tractor Engine Exhaust System Using Constrained Single Objective Optimization and Stochastic Analysis

The tractor engine related mounting brackets are very critical due to different aspects of vehicle performance, durability and noise. These mounting bracket have been designed as a framework to support engine external parts like muffler, exhaust tail pipe, alternator etc. Vibration and fatigue has been continuously a concern which may lead to structural failure and performance issues. Various such failures are faced regularly by automotive industry and finite element based analysis are used to resolve them. The resolution is done by playing with the component thicknesses, material, by providing additional support etc. However, due to large degree of uncertainty associated with the loading, boundary conditions, manufacturing, environmental effects; still there is some probability of failure. This paper focuses on a field failure issue of an exhaust system of a tractor and subsequent concern resolution.
