Accelerated Corrosion Tests and the Evaluation of New Automotive Brake Line Coatings

1991-10-01
912292
New corrosion resistant coatings for brake tubing have been evaluated by use of the accelerated vehicle corrosion test and the trailer corrosion test. These tests appear useful for comparing the end point perforation resistance of the tubing coating combination and for comparing the corrosion and paint adhesion properties of the coatings, respectively. The paper discusses the procedure and results of the accelerated vehicle corrosion test as well as burst pressure tests after accelerated vehicle corrosion testing.

Corrosion Resistant Materials and Body Paint Systems for Automotive Applications

1986-12-08
862015
This presentation provides an in-depth view of the corrosion resistant materials, processes and technology being utilized by Chrysler to build long lasting passenger cars and trucks. Currently a 5 year/50,000 mile (80,000 km) warranty against outer body panel perforation is standard for all cars and trucks sold in the U.S. and Canada. Modern state of the art joining techniques, body priming and color coating systems are in place to meet the reliability expectations of our customers. Specific applications for the following steels are presented; 1-side galvanized, 1-1/2 side galvanized, 2-side galvanized, 2-side galvannealed, Zincrometal®, Type 409 stainless steel. Type 1 aluminized, and terne coated steel.
