Specific Brazilian Trailer Design Requires Specific Attention to Proper Applications of the Anti-Lock-Braking System

The NBR 14353 requires Anti-Lock Braking Systems for new trailer segment (≥ 57ton) up from 2013. For trucks not being equipped with the future standard connection according to ISO 7638, the ABS should still be operable via the stop light wiring ISO 1185 or ISO 12098. The supply current of the stop light lamps will strongly increase by the power demand of the ABS of all trailers. This, in combination with very long cables and small cross section wires can result into voltage drop and ABS malfunctions. Reduction of the power consumption and clear focus on cable and connector specifications are challenges for ABS manufacturers and trailer builders.
