The new generation of ZÖLLNER dynamometers has been developed in order to fulfill the steadily rising needs for the testing of prime movers (especially in engine development). These requirements concern above all a simple operating interface, high stability of steady state operating points, high reproducibility of measurements as well as short response times for instationary applications. In order to achieve these aims a number of development goals were defined: New operating and parameter configuration concept Intelligent software for optimized controller adjustment Power electronics with fully controlled thyristor bridge Optimization of exciter coils (regarding inductivity and resistance) The new performance testing devices were themselves put to test - this report describes the field test results achieved with an eddy current dynamometer B-220 AE (with controller PRE 5) on a test bed at AVL in Graz / Austria.
