The Pedestrian Protection Assessment is very important in achieving good EuroNCAP star rating and requires as much effort in the development of the vehicle as other aspects of car safety. The EuroNCAP Pedestrian Protection assessment consists of a Lower and Upper Leg as well as a Child and Adult Head impact testing. All of the Pedestrian Protection tests can be successfully mitigated using a Finite Element simulation technique. However, the Pedestrian Protection simulation models require higher level of detail and different modeling approach than typical crash simulation models. The windscreen glass model development is presented as an example of the amount of detail required in pedestrian protection simulation and the effort and investment to develop new modelling techniques. Moreover the need to include forming data in the bonnet model has been show. Also, the effort required in development and correlation of the head form impactor model has been presented.
