Fuel Consumption of Road Commercial Vehicles in the Driving Schedule

1997-12-31
973053
The fuel consumption is an important factor in the vehicle development due the fact that it has a direct effect on its trade aims. Besides that, it is known that the petrol is a scarce fuel. In this paper it is presented a procedure of fuel consumption calculation for a vehicle traveling in driving schedule. In such calculation it has been taken into account the operational conditions (load, pavement, climbing road, among others) and the building characteristics (map engine, transmission, frontal area, tire, among others) of road vehicles. There has also been an application of the theoretical model developed in a sample Mercedes-Benz do Brasil vehicle which has been compared with the values of experimental tests.

A Study of the Braking Performance of Heavy Trucks Using the “Static Equilibrium” or “Centre of Gravity Range” Technique

1995-10-01
952215
This paper shows a performance analysis of a tractor-semitrailer during the braking process, on a dry road surface, under any operating condition. In order to carry out this analysis, mathematical modelling with the “static equilibrium” or “centre of gravity range” technique application was used. The results obtained were corroborated by experimental data and were very satisfactory. The related computer program was developed in association with Mercedes-Benz of Brazil. At present, this mathematical modelling and the related computer program are being used by Mercedes-Benz of Brazil for definition of the brake system of their heavy vehicles.

A Study of the Influence of the Brake Force Distribution on the Directional Stability of Heavy Vehicles During the Brailing Process

1995-10-01
952213
This paper shows a study of the influence of the brake force distribution on the directional stability of a tractor-semitrailer during the braking process in a rectilinial trajectory, for different operating conditions (empty and with full load). A computer program was developed in association with Mercedes-Benz of Brazil it will be used.
