Sound Power Level Measurements of Work Machines—Static and In-Place Dynamic Methods

2003-01-30
HISTORICAL
J1805_200301
This SAE Standard is used to determine the exterior A-weighted equivalent sound power level of static and in-place dynamic machines (dozer, loader, excavator, and backhoe) similar to the sound power obtained in ISO 6393 static and ISO 6395 dynamic sound power test procedures. Additional machine types, specifically sweepers and scrubbers, covered by SAE J2130 have been added, and other work machine types covered by SAE J1116 may be added with appropriate cycle descriptions and machine preparation. The recommended test procedures include conventional integrating sound pressure level methods or the sound intensity method using paired microphones. The sound intensity methodology provides a practical indoor alternative and permits measurement in the factory environment. The procedures in this document assume that the dominant sources are not highly sensitive to load (i.e., cooling fan, engine, track system).

SOUND MEASUREMENT - TRENCHING MACHINES

1990-10-24
HISTORICAL
J1262_199010
This SAE Standard specifies procedures for measuring operator and exterior sound levels emitted by self-powered trenching machines regardless of engine size. This procedure does not cover operation of devices such as backup alarms, horns, or accessories such as paving breakers. The sound levels obtained using this procedure are repeatable and representative of the higher range of sound levels generated by machines under actual field operating conditions, but do not necessarily represent the average sound level over a field use cycle. Measurement and calculation of the operator's sound exposure should follow SAE J1166.

ACOUSTICS—MEASUREMENT OF AIRBORNE NOISE EMITTED BY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT INTENDED FOR OUTDOOR USE—METHOD FOR DETERMINING COMPLIANCE WITH NOISE LIMITS

1991-06-01
J2101_199106
This SAE Standard describes a method for measuring the weighted sound pressure levels at prescribed microphone positions in the proximity of a device or machine for outdoor use, in order to determine compliance with noise limits. The A-weighted sound power level of the source is calculated from the measured values.

ACOUSTICS — MEASUREMENT OF AIRBORNE NOISE EMITTED BY EARTHMOVING MACHINERY — METHOD FOR DETERMINING COMPLIANCE WITH LIMITS FOR EXTERIOR NOISE — STATIONARY TEST CONDITION

1991-06-01
J2102_199106
This SAE Standard describes a method for determining the exterior noise emitted by earthmoving machinery in terms of the A-weighted sound power level while the machine is in a stationary test condition. At six positions on a hemispherical surface, the equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure levels are measured. The A-weighted sound power level of the machinery is calculated from the measured values.

Acoustics--Measurement of Airborne Noise Emitted By Earthmoving Machinery--Operator's Position--Stationary Testing Condition

2003-06-17
J2103_200306
This SAE Standard describes a method for determining the noise emitted by earthmoving machinery at the operator's position in terms of the equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level while the machine is in a stationary test condition. This SAE Standard is a special test code for specific types of earthmoving machinery. It is an extension of ISO 6081 which contains the general requirements for many types of machinery and equipment. Specific requirements are provided in this special test code to enable the sound pressure level at the operator's position, with the machine in a stationary test condition, to be determined in a manner which is repeatable. Attachments (bucket, dozer, etc.) for the manufacturer's production version shall be fitted since this is the configuration most likely to exist when the machine is in actual use. This document will enable compliance with noise limits to be determined.

SOUND MEASUREMENT - OFF-ROAD SELF-PROPELLED WORK MACHINES OPERATOR-WORK CYCLE

1990-05-01
HISTORICAL
J1166_199005
This SAE Standard sets forth the procedures to be used in measuring sound levels and determining the time weighted sound level at the operator's stations(s) of specified off-road self-propelled work machines. This document applies to the following work machines which have operator stations as specified in SAE J1116: Crawler Loader Wheel Loader Dumper Tractor Scraper Grader Crawler Tractor with Dozer Wheel Tractor with Dozer Pad Foot Wheel Compactor with Dozer Backhoe Hydraulic Excavator Log Skidder Excavator & Wheel Feller-Buncher Pipelayer Roller/Compactor Trencher The Instrumentation requirements and specific work cycles for these machines are described. The method used to calculate the time weighted average sound level at the operator statlon(s) is specified for Leq(5), or optional exchange rates, during continuous operation in a work cycle. A method to relate the time weighted average sound level at the operator statlon(s) to operator sound exposure is also provided.
