American industry seems to have entered the decade keenly aware of the strategic importance of satisfied customers. Yet, satisfying the customer on a daily basis is much easier to discuss than it is to accomplish. With customer satisfaction as the goal, companies are quickly learning the important lesson that it all begins with product development. At Case, we are attempting to “weave” the critical areas of marketing, engineering, manufacturing, and sales and service into a “quilt” of customer satisfaction. Satisfying the customer, we are learning, has many faces. From market research into the needs and wants of the customer, to concept and feasibility analysis, to engineering and prototypes, to manufacturing and sales, Case is learning the key lessons of quality improvement and team deployment.

The Development of the CaseIH 7150 Magnum Tractor

The CaseIH 7150 tractor has the highest PTO power of any row crop tractor currently produced. It has unprecedented power at 160 PTO kW and hitch lift capacity at 66.5 kN. The 7150 extends the 7100 Series Magnum family of row crop tractors to five models (7110, 7120, 7130, 7140 and now the 7150). This paper describes the development and new features of this tractor.

Utilizing these techniques allows cost savings in design, tooling, manufacturing, piece parts and service as well as improving designs, durability, and reliability.
