Analysis of Self-Excited Vibration in Hydraulic Power Steering System: Prevention Against Vibration by Supply Line

2001-03-05
2001-01-0488
A mathematical model for a hydraulic power steering system was constructed and numerical analysis was performed for self-excited vibration caused by rapid steering in the power steering system. From the examination, the guide of the prevention against the vibration was derived, such as positioning the rather long hose at near the power steering gear in the supply line, and the mechanism of the prevention was clarified. Moreover, the mathematical model and the guide of the prevention were verified by bench tests.

Development of High Strength Transmission Gears

1992-02-01

High strength transmission gears have been developed for use in the final gear set of front-wheel-drive vehicles. The steel used as the gear material has a higher molybdenum content, allowing more austenite to be retained following carburizing than is possible with chromium steel. As a result, the steel can be subjected to higher intensity shot peening by using harder peening particles which are projected by an air-nozzle peening system. With this procedure, the fatigue strength of the gears can be increased 1.6 times over that of conventional gears.

Visualization of Combustion Phenomena in Regeneration of Diesel Particulate Filter

2003-03-03
2003-01-0836
Combustion phenomena in the regeneration of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) were clarified through a visualization experiment, using a half-cylindrical wall-flow DPF covered by a quartz glass plate. At a constant oxygen concentration (8.5% and 10% in the current study) of a working gas used for regeneration, in the cases of large particulate masses and high working gas temperatures, the particulate matter trapped on the filter surface is burned in a narrow reaction zone which can be observed as a high brightness zone moving slowly toward the downstream side. Just after the reaction zone passes, a sharp temperature peak is detected and there remains no particulate matter on the filter surface. Furthermore, the particulate matter is ignited first around the middle of the DPF, and then, the reaction zone propagates toward both the upstream and the downstream sides.
