Hose, Air Duct, Flexible Nonmetallic, Aircraft
AS1501
This document covers flexible and semiflexible, reinforced and unreinforced air hoses fabricated from laminated and impregnated fabric, intended for use in aircraft heating, air conditioning, ventilating, defrosting, and/or deicing systems.
Rationale: This SAE Standard proposed to be revised to address the following:
1) General (Editorial)
Update/convert Tables, Graphics from hard to read “cartoon style” to clear images, tables etc. Especially Table 2 must be reconfigured to make readable…as is this table is horrible.
2) Correct some typos (not I’ve captured all of them):
3) Add classification for Fire testing/compliance. This is a major addition to be added on in anticipation of new FAA rule (VFP, Vertical Flame Propagation). Without actual new rule released it must be done in 2 stages.
Stage 1(prior new rule release): add classification Stage 2 (after new rule is released): revise all affected standards to add codes/designations for VFP compliant configurations
4) Add 2 new requirements for Lateral Load and Wire delamination (durability) testing and revise associated/affected by that addition standards (by adding grades etc.)
5) Add clarification/options to Fluid Resistance requirement.
6) Negative pressure collapse test clarification.
NOTE: Scope may be increased once existing suppliers engaged into this project.
