This SAE Standard applies to new refrigerant used in motor vehicle passenger air-conditioning (A/C) systems, including belt and electrically driven compressors.
Rationale: With the stepdowns in the EU/UK F-gas, and now the US AIM Act reducing the amount of R-134a refrigerant available on the market, R-456A allows for the industry to have a lower GWP option available in the service of R-134a vehicles.
