This document applies to shims only and will outline insulator design guidelines for improved manufacturability, cost and optimized product performance (Durability, bondability…)
Rationale: Throughout the automotive industry, brake noise is one of the critical performance metrics which end user’s experience. Brake noise has historically been controlled by implementing noise insulators which are fixated to a brake pad by adhesives and/or mechanical fastening. However, there is currently no recognized standard for the design of these insulators and avoid industry reoccurring issues, such as noise, durability, manufacturability…. This recommended practice will outline design guidelines developed from lessons learned of these historical issues.
