Timothy Grewe

Director, Electrificaiton Strategy
General Motors

Tim is the General Director of Electrification Strategy for General Motors as well as Ultium product expansion into locomotive, aerospace, and secondary use.

Tim has a BSEE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as well as a MSEE from Syracuse University. He started his career with General Electric developing distributed power systems for aircraft, rail, off road & heavy-duty transportation. Tim joined GM as Chief Engineer for the Allison Hybrid City Bus. His teams have launched multiple generations of GM electric propulsion systems including the Ultium platform. Recent examples include the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. Tim is the holder of numerous patents and is active in the electrification industry.

Ahmad Pesaran

Chief Energy Storage Engineer
National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Ahmad Pesaran is the chief energy storage engineer for NREL’s Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences. At NREL since 1983, his work has spanned various technical arenas, including automotive batteries, buildings, ocean-thermal energy conversion, and advanced air conditioning. He has co-authored more than 150 journal articles and technical papers on energy storage and electric-drive vehicles.

Currently he supports the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) with battery recycling, battery processing and manufacturing, and low-cobalt cathode development projects. He also serves on the electrochemical energy storage technical team and workgroups of the U.S. DRIVE (Driving Research and Innovation for Vehicle efficiency and Energy sustainability) program.

He started working on batteries, ultracapacitors, hybrid electric, battery electric, and fuel cell vehicles in 1995, collaborating with car and battery manufacturers on battery thermal analysis and battery thermal management issues.

Until 2017, he was the manager of NREL’s energy storage research team working on high energy anodes, electrode coatings, battery thermal analysis and evaluation, lithium-ion battery safety modeling and evaluation, three-dimensional electrochemical-thermal modeling, techno-economic analysis of batteries for electric vehicles, and post-vehicle battery second use. From 2010 to 2016, he was the technical lead for DOE’s Computer-Aided Engineering for Electric Drive Vehicle Batteries (CAEBAT) program.

From 2016 to 2018, he was on detail in Washington, D.C. as a technical advisor to the VTO Battery R&D Program, supporting extreme fast charging of electric vehicle batteries, battery processing and manufacturing projects, and battery recycling.

Adrian Schaffer

President, North America
Ricardo

Mr. Schaffer is the President, Emerging Mobility, Automotive and Industrial Business Unit at Ricardo, plc. He drives sales and execution, translating Ricardo’s global expertise into the advancement of clean mobility solutions. Schaffer’s three decades of experience have given him broad and deep technical knowledge that’s invaluable for helping customers implement cutting-edge technologies. “To manage technology businesses effectively, I need to understand the technology to a certain degree,” he says. Even more importantly, he spends a lot of time with engineering to understand how products are designed, built, and integrated, so he can most effectively communicate their value. Mr. Schaffer’s background and context fit right in with what we’re doing today and where the industry needs to go.

Mr. Schaffer was the Business Unit Director of Sales for Danfoss Editron responsible for Global Electrification Sales for On-Highway commercial businesses. UQM was purchased by Danfoss in 2019 where he was promoted to Sr. Vice President of Sales and Business Development. In this new role, Mr. Schaffer led Danfoss sales initiatives; focusing on developing and enhancing new business opportunities, product and global expansion and investigation of potential strategic partnerships to allow continued growth into the vehicle electrification and fuel cell marketplace.

Prior to joining Danfoss, Mr. Schaffer was the Vice President of Sales for the Industrial Commercial & Energy Group (ICE) for Linamar Corporation - a leading supplier to the global vehicle and mobile industrial equipment markets. Adrian also spent nearly twenty years in senior executive and sales positions at Motorola where he successfully launched new technologies that are now a part of the global vehicle marketplace.

Adrian earned his Executive MBA from Michigan State University and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College. He resides in Rochester Hills, Michigan with his wife Marilyn, together they have raised two boys who both graduated from college and are leading their respective lives in Chicago and Atlanta.

Paul Mueller

Sr. Manager, Electrical and Thermal Systems Integration
Zoox

Paul Mueller has spent nearly 30 years in automotive development. Paul now leads thermal and aero attributes at Zoox and is also tackling the problem of driving autonomously in all weather conditions.
