Patrick Kaufman

Global Powertrain Engineering Leader, Accelera by Cummins

Presentation:
Unique Thermal Management Challenges for Fuel Cell Vehicles

Biography:
Patrick is a technology leader with over 18 years of experience developing xEV products. He currently lead Accelera’s global Powertrain Integration engineering efforts for on-highway vehicles, both fuel cell and battery electric. He originally joined Accelera by Cummins in 2018 through the acquisition of Efficient Drivetrains Inc. (EDI), where he served as Chief Engineer and Director of Development Engineering. Most of his career has been in small, intimate startups trying to bring cutting-edge electrification technology to the market. His commercial successes include the first 100-vehicle order of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for package delivery in 2012, the world's first plug-in hybrid electric medium-duty utility trucks with built-in 125kW AC export power in 2016, and Accelera’s medium-duty BEV product line started in 2018, now with over 1000 electric school busses on the road. Patrick studied PHEV controls and architecture at UC Davis under Prof. Andy Frank; earning his M.S. in M.E. in 2008. He participated in the SAE ‘Challenge X’ collegiate design series in 2005-2007. He studied at Oregon State University, earning a B.S. in M.E. in 2005, where he participated in SAE ‘Mini Baja’ in 2003-2005.
