Cast Shot and Grit Size Specifications for Cleaning and Peening

2023-06-27
CURRENT
J444_202306
This SAE Recommended Practice pertains to blast cleaning and shot peening and provides for standard cast shot and grit size numbers. For shot, this number corresponds with the opening of the nominal test sieve, in ten thousandths of inches1, preceded by an S. For grit, this number corresponds with the sieve designation of the nominal test sieve with the prefix G added. These sieves are in accordance with ASTM E11. The accompanying shot and grit classifications and size designations were formulated by representatives of shot and grit suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and automotive users.

Brake Insulator Damping Measurement Procedure

2023-06-19
CURRENT
J3001_202306
This procedure is applicable to modes from 500 and 13,000 Hz. The parameters measured with this procedure are defined as the damping factor, ξ for first nine vibration modes of the beam. The measurement will be done in free-free conditions and with temperature.

Test Method for Determining Blocking Resistance and Associated Characteristics of Automotive Trim Materials

2023-02-20
CURRENT
J912_202302
This test method is designed to indicate the degree of surface tackiness, color transfer, loss of embossment, and surface marring when two trim materials are placed face to face under specific conditions of time, temperature, and pressure. These specific conditions are not dictated in this test procedure but will be found in the material standards which govern each type of trim material to be tested.

Discharge Forward Lighting System and Subsystems

2022-12-07
CURRENT
J2009_202212
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to motor vehicle forward illumination systems and subsystems generated by discharge sources. It provides test methods, requirements, and guidelines applicable to the special characteristics of gaseous discharge lighting devices which supplement those required for forward illumination systems using incandescent light sources. The document is applicable to both discharge forward lighting systems, subsystems and components. This document is intended to be a guide to standard practice and is subject to change to reflect additional experience and technical advances.

Dynamic Cushioning Performance Criteria for Snowmobile Seats

2022-05-02
WIP
J89
This SAE Recommended Practice encompasses the significant factors which determine the effectiveness of a seat system in limiting spinal injury during vertical impacts between the rider and the snowmobile seat system. The document is intended to provide a tool for the development of safer snowmobile seats. It is recognized that the seat is only a portion of the entire vehicle protective suspension system. It is, however, usually required that the seat serve as added protection to the suspension system, since the latter may "bottom out" during a severe impact. The term "seat" refers to the occupant-supporting system not normally considered part of the vehicle suspension or frame system. In some cases, it may include more than the foam cushion.

Class "A" Vehicle Glazing Shade Bands

2022-03-16
CURRENT
J100_202203
This SAE Recommended Practice establishes boundaries for shade bands on glazed surfaces in class "A" vehicles. These boundaries are located so that the shade band can provide occupant comfort and driver vision protection from glare, with respect to solar radiation, under some lighting and driving conditions. Since shade bands transmit less visible light than adjacent glazed surfaces, the shade band boundaries establish boundaries for the driver's field of view.
