Energy Systems Transformation PD772325

Topics: Advanced Technologies Electric power , Electric power grid , Smart grid

Introduction to Energy System Transformation:

In this course you will be introduced to the historical drivers and trends that started the energy transition, as well as consequences of the new energy shift towards a zero-emission society and discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from this shift in energy sources focus. You will then be addressed as a citizen consuming energy. You will explore how everyday energy consumption fluctuates and how personal behaviors can significantly change the amount of energy that is used. Lastly, you will learn about advanced visualization for energy consumption.

Integration of Local Energy Sources and Coupling to Upstream Grid Markets:

In this course you will learn about the integration of local energy sources and the concepts of ancillary services consisting in frequency regulation and voltage control and the role of system operators.

Energy digitalization:

In this course you will be introduced to the concept of big data and why they are particularly important in the energy sector. You will learn about smart meters and what we can understand from that data. Lastly, you will learn about cyber attacks, threat modelling, and risk assessment.

Investment Scenarios, Business Models and Relevant Policy Frameworks:

In this course, you will start by exploring the challenges, main drivers, and opportunities related to the changing energy system in general. In particular, we will elaborate on the role end customers will play in the new energy system. Finally, we will go through a range of policy and regulation frameworks related to the goals of European Union and the energy transition.

Objectives

  • Describe the transformation from centralized to local energy systems
  • Explain current developments and future innovation in the transformation of the energy system
  • Identify trends and opportunities in energy transformation
  • Explain relevant legislative implications
  • Anticipate market dynamics and future challenges
