Simulating the kinetic energy of a passenger car to measure friction force between the rotor (disc) and friction material (pad) at different operating conditions have designed a test rig. The effect of thermal loading at the sliding interface between the frictional material and the rotor of Floating Caliper Disc Brake (FCDB) has been studied. The effect of bulk temperature on friction coefficient has been also studied at different loads and speeds. An infrared camera has been fixed at a suitable place to measure the disc surface temperature. The experimental data obtained were digitized and averaged to eliminate the noise in the measured signal using high appropriate technique, then displayed on Digital Storage Oscilloscope and fed to the computer for further analysis. The results showed that, the minimum coefficient of friction was 0.23 at disc surface temperature 250 °C and the maximum reached 0.55 at disc surface temperature of 150 °C.
