Parametric Study on Mid-Mounted Passenger Airbag Cushion Using Design of Experiments 2003-01-0514
In parametric optimization of the cushion shape of passenger side airbag, which has three-dimensional and vehicle interior parts dependent shape, it is very important to define the design variables, to make the ranges of variables, and to set up the design process.
In this paper, the considerations of cushion design of mid-mounted passenger airbag are presented. Considered design variables are size, width of cushion, location, width, the number of tether, and size of vent hole. By using orthogonal array, in-position NCAP simulation is performed within the ranges of given control levels. Also, the relationships among design variables are analyzed to help the design of airbag cushion.
