This paper briefly covers the design evolution of the Hawker P1127, describes its engine and airframe, refers to the wind tunnel and rig development, and summarizes the pre flight preparation and flight development to date. It concludes with a description of the V/STOL handling characteristics and flying techniques involved.
The P1127 aircraft is very flexible and straightforward to operate, and can provide a valuable operational tool. The V/STOL flying techniques involved are a simple extension of normal flying practice and do not require the assistance of autostabilization.
