Sonic Testing of Gray Iron Sleeve Castings to Predict Tensile Strength 690371
The application of resonant frequency measurements and their correlation with casting properties (that is, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, etc.) has been in limited use in this country for several years. This paper describes the installation of this method of nondestructive testing to predict tensile strength of alloyed gray iron sleeve castings. A statistical approach was used to analyze and reduce the raw data to a workable quality control tool.
