A Study on the Reduction of Exhaust Noise by Using Partition and Offset in a Multi - Chamber Muffler with Perforated Tube 912516

The parameters which affect the performance of a silencer system for the reduction of engine exhaust noise are too many to achieve optimum design of the silencer.
It is, therefore, required to use compiled design data or designers' experience to design the new muffler system. On the other hand, during the past decades, the analytic and numerical methods which can fairly well predict the performance of silencers with arbitrary geometries, temperature variations, and mean flow have been developed. In this paper, these techniques which enabled us to cut down the design steps and development time of silencers are implemented, and their practical applications and the gain we obtained are shown.
