Advanced Catalyst Coating Technology for Porous Substrates

2007-07-23
2007-01-1951
To accelerate the oxidation of soot particles collected in the DPF we have developed novel catalytic coatings with a variety of methods based on conventional and novel synthesis routes. The developed catalytic compositions exhibit significant direct soot oxidation as evaluated by reacting mixtures of diesel soot and catalyst powders in a thermogravimetric analysis apparatus (TGA). ...Interestingly enough it is shown that the often-conflicting targets of high filtration efficiency, low pressure drop and high soot oxidation activity can be achieved simultaneously using the developed coating technologies.

Sustained Soot Oxidation in Catalytically Coated Filters

To study the direct catalytic soot oxidation on CDPFs, base-metal catalysts have been applied to DPFs with a variety of coating technologies. All materials were loaded with soot under identical exhaust conditions and soot oxidation was studied using temperature programmed and isothermal techniques. ...It is demonstrated that advanced catalyst coating technologies can lead into sustained and even accelerated soot oxidation over the entire conversion range, overcoming the shortcomings of conventional catalytic coatings which do not sustain the soot oxidation rate as conversion proceeds. ...It is demonstrated that advanced catalyst coating technologies can lead into sustained and even accelerated soot oxidation over the entire conversion range, overcoming the shortcomings of conventional catalytic coatings which do not sustain the soot oxidation rate as conversion proceeds.
