Feature Extraction and Classification of Point Cloud in Urban Intersections Environment

2021-04-08
2021-01-5006
Due to the complexity of the urban traffic scene, the changeable state of dynamic targets, and the incomplete environmental information acquired by equipment, a point cloud feature extraction and classification method based on viewpoint feature histogram (VFH) and support vector machine (SVM) is proposed according to the perception requirements of objects in a complex intersection environment. ...The point cloud information of typical urban intersections is preprocessed by pass-through data filtering, and the scene point cloud data is segmented by a conditional Euclidean clustering algorithm. ...The classification and recognition experiments of point cloud data in the traffic scene are carried out with logic regression, decision tree, and neural network algorithm set of urban intersection point cloud data for real-time processing. The experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to the classification and recognition of typical objects in the urban intersection environment.

Life-Cycle Cost Analysis Applied to Urban Bus Chassis

2015-09-22
2015-36-0262
Life-cycle cost analysis can provide a solid basis to support improvements in how fleet managers use their vehicles and in how manufactures design them. The challenge to it be an established practice rests on getting quality data provided by fleet operators and on the understanding that the data is significantly influenced by both the operational environment and the quality of management (operations and maintenance). In 2012, a benchmark study was conducted using the public transportation system of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Twelve companies participated in the study. Although the primary purpose of the study was to assess the differences in the competitiveness among the twelve companies, the data collected provide a database that was very consistent in providing critical analysis of vehicle maintainability by generating life-cycle cost analysis. The study proved to be an important tool to link vehicle design to the operational and maintenance management of company fleets.

Toward Sustainable Urban Transportation: Examining the Potential of Transport Departments in Lahore, Pakistan

2023-10-18
2023-01-5074
This study evaluates the current potential of transport departments of Lahore, Pakistan toward a sustainable urban transportation system. The Benchmarking and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approaches have been used to analyze both primary data from the relevant stakeholders through a questionnaire survey and secondary data obtained from the reports (e.g., Barella et al. [1]) and official websites. ...The results show that the qualitative assessment of transport departments in terms of quantitative data (internal evaluation factor) is equal to 1.712 on a scale of 4.0, which means that the current potential of transport departments has not yet grasped even the minimum requirements of achieving sustainability in urban transportation. To improve the current potential, suggestions are made to reach the desired state of sustainability in transportation in terms of improved outcomes and service delivery.

Horns and Acoustic Devices New Technologiesfor Urban Traffic Noise Disturbance Reduction

2003-05-05
2003-01-1738
Usual electromechanical horn technology doesn't allow any horn noise control and leaves disturbance vs. safety management to the civic sensibility of the drivers. Electronics, loudspeaker technology, multiplexing and psychoacoustics give the car designers as well as the public authorities new tools to control unnecessary horn noise without loosing safety or increasing costs. These technical solutions are already available, sometimes even applied for other purposes and don't require any major vehicle modification or cost increase. Furthermore, they can give car designers new sounding options and “Brand Management” opportunities without any public disturbance increase.

Holistic Approach for Improved Safety Including a Proposal of New Virtual Test Conditions of Small Electric Vehicles

2015-04-14
2015-01-0571
In the next 20 years the share of small electric vehicles (SEVs) will increase especially in urban areas. SEVs show distinctive design differences compared to traditional vehicles. Thus the consequences of impacts of SEVs with vulnerable road users (VRUs) and other vehicles will be different from traditional collisions. ...The focus of the presented work is on SEVs in L7e category, for which no specific, urban area relevant safety regulations are available. Overall occupant and VRU safety of future SEVs will increase significantly, if additionally to the standard crash tests the elaborated tests from the European Union (EU) initiative SafeEV are applied for the design of safety measures within L7e vehicle class.
