Test Method for the Determination of Water Concentration in Polyol Ester and Diester Aerospace Lubricants by Coulometric Karl Fischer Titration

2024-05-17
CURRENT
ARP5991B
The test method describes the procedure for the direct determination of water concentration in polyol ester and diester based aerospace lubricants by commercially available automated coulometric Karl Fischer titration instruments. The method was validated to cover the water concentration range of 150 to 3500 µg/g. The method may also be suitable for the determination of water concentrations outside this range and for other classes of fluids; however, the precision statement shall not be applicable for such uses.

Safety Considerations for Electrified Propulsion Aircraft

2024-05-16
WIP
AIR8677
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides information to be considered when performing the safety assessment of electrified propulsion aircraft. Its main focuses are: ● Typical new technologies introduced by electrified propulsion and their impact on safety ● The failure modes of electrified propulsion systems and their components ● Potential effects of failures at system and aircraft levels ● Possible strategies to minimize failures and mitigate their effects The information in this document may be used to generate inputs for system and aircraft safety assessments based on industry standards such as SAE ARP4761. The first issue of this document addresses battery systems, power electronics, eMotors, electrical interconnects and thermal management for fully electric configurations. Future issues are expected to address other subsystems, components and configurations.

All-Wheel Drive Systems Classification

2024-05-16
CURRENT
J1952_202405
This document seeks to classify all-wheel drive (AWD) architectures primarily based on the installed hardware and does not consider the implementation of the controls and software. For example, a power transfer unit (PTU) may be equipped with a clutch that is capable of torque management, but the control implementation only uses it for disconnection functions without torque management. In this SAE Recommended Practice, attention will be given to passenger cars and light trucks (through Class III). The definitions presented herein may also be applicable to heavy trucks (Class 4 through 8) and off-highway applications using more than two axles but are primarily focused on passenger cars and light trucks.

Nuts, Self-Locking, UNS N07001 730 °C, 1100 MPa, and 1210 MPa Procurement Specification for, Metric

2024-05-09
CURRENT
MA1943C
This procurement specification covers aircraft quality self-locking nuts for wrenching (hex, spline) and anchor (plate, gang channel, shank) types of nuts made from a corrosion and heat-resistant nickel-base alloy of the type identified under the Unified Numbering System as UNS N07001. Tension height nuts having overall length of threaded portion not less than 1.2 times the nominal thread diameter have 1210 MPa minimum tensile strength at room temperature. Shear height nuts having shorter threaded portion have 1100 MPa minimum tensile strength at room temperature. Maximum test temperature of parts is 730 °C.

Standard Four-Letter Coding as an Identification Method for Alternative Fuel Vehicles

2024-05-07
WIP
J3108/1
SAE J3108 RP provides fuel and hazard guidance for first and second responders of incidents associated with alternative fueled vehicles. The intent of this SAE J3108-1 RP is to remain with the limited number of seven intuitive and colored letters contained in each of the first two letter positions (72=49). However, the use of four letters plus nine digits (to not use either 0 or o) permits up to 1185921 unique identifiers (334) for future expansion. The RP is not intended to replace the standards for SAE J2990 format emergency response guide (ERG) created by automotive manufacturers for use at the scene of an emergency. Automotive OEMs are encouraged to reference this RP for industry design guidance when creating vehicle requirements and ERGs. This coding should be consistent with other vehicle badging with the goal of providing additional clarity.
