This SAE Standard applies to General-Purpose Industrial Machines described in Category 2 of SAE J1116, but excludes skid steer loaders (covered by SAE J1388). Protection for the operator of an attachment (for example, a backhoe) is excluded from the scope of this document.
This SAE Recommended Practice applies to construction, general purpose industrial, forestry, and specialized mining machinery as categorized in SAE J1116. It describes the machine components and systems that should be disconnected, secured, or otherwise rendered inoperative. Deterrent systems or devices covered by this recommended practice are to be used when the machine is shut down per the manufacturer's shut down instructions. It is not the intent of this recommended practice to protect the machine or the authorized machine operator, or to protect against abuse, destructive vandalism, or theft.
This SAE Standard specifies the requirements to help prevent inadvertent and to discourage deliberate electrical connection at the starter motor solenoid or starter relay which may result in the starter pinion engaging the ring gear. This document applies to off-road, self-propelled work machines, as identified in SAE J1116, which have the potential of powered movement as a direct result of the starter pinion engaging the ring gear.

This SAE Standard provides the acceptance criteria for a lift arm support device to prevent lowering of the loader lift arms when the lift arms are required to be held in an elevated position for maintenance. It establishes structural, mounting, and test requirements for a lift arm support device for loaders as defined in SAE J1057 JUN81.
Structural requirements, selected mounting requirements, and test procedures are established for articulated frame wheel loaders and articulated frame wheel tractors as defined in SAE J1057a (June, 1975).
