Air Cargo Pallet Extensions

2023-10-06
CURRENT
AS1988B
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the dimensional and operational requirements for pallet extension devices. It provides support for items of cargo beyond either the short or the long sides of a pallet, allowing increased volume to be achieved in conjunction with pallets meeting the requirements of AS1491 plus additional pallet sizes usable with extensions.

Cargo Stopper Devices

2022-10-13
CURRENT
AS6554A
The purpose of this SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) is to standardize the basic design, performance, and testing requirements for “Cargo Stoppers” cargo tie-down accessories to be used in conjunction with approved restraint straps meeting AS5385C (TSO C-172) requirements.

Fire Containment Cover - Design, Performance, and Testing Requirements

2021-12-13
CURRENT
AS6453A
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies the minimum design and performance criteria and testing methods of fire containment covers (FCCs) used either: a In those cargo compartments of civil transport aircraft where they constitute one means of complying with applicable airworthiness regulations, or b On a voluntary basis, when deemed appropriate by operators to improve fire protection in aircraft cargo compartments where airworthiness regulations do not mandate their use.

General Requirements for Powered Drive Units (PDUs) in Aircraft Cargo Systems

2019-10-02
CURRENT
AIR4165B
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) is intended to assist the user (aircraft manufacturer/airline) in the following areas: a In the decision of whether or not to plan for the installation of a powered drive system in the cargo loading system (CLS) during the definition of the aircraft on-board cargo loading system. b If a powered drive system is decided upon, to provide general requirements to be considered during the preparation of component specifications for the powered drive units (PDUs) to be used. This provides a selection of criteria in order to obtain an optimum PDU for the application considered.

Aircraft On Board Weight and Balance System Requirements

2018-10-18
CURRENT
ARP1409C
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes requirements for the function, characteristics, and installation of an aircraft On Board Weight and Balance System (OBWBS) for use on civil transport aircraft. This document is not intended to specify design methods, mechanisms, or material to accomplish the requirements set forth.

Cargo Compartments Maximum Package Size Calculation Methodology

2014-03-25
CURRENT
AIR4899A
The methodology for maximum package size loading is based on a mathematical method allowing the calculation of maximum package size tables. This method does not in principal differentiate between bulk loading and cargo system loading. However, some restrictions have to be considered: Some cargo systems generate pre-determined pallet trajectories. Envelope curves depending on the pallet size and the possible trajectories have to be determined first. Door geometric limitations (with or without cargo loading system) Turning limitations due to weight, load geometry and conveyance capability Securing requirements This document is not intended for airline operational use. It should be used by engineers performing calculations or developing computer programs to produce Maximum Package Size tables specified in AS1825.

Effects of Hanging Loads (e.g., GOH) on ULD Performance

2013-08-12
HISTORICAL
AIR4359
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides information on the subject of Air Mode containers used for transporting “Hanging Loads” such as Garment-On-Hangers (GOH), or other roof supported cargo. It suggests considerations and recommendations for roof loaded containers to transport hanging loads efficiently and safely by air and to protect the aircraft floor and cargo system from damage due to overload conditions.
