This part of SAE J514 covers general and dimensional specifications for 37 degree flared tube fittings. Also included are 37 degree flared fittings with NPTF pipe threads in Appendix B. These fittings are intended for general application in hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. These fittings are capable of providing leak-proof, full flow connections in hydraulic systems operating at working pressures as specified in Table 6. Since many factors influence the pressure at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, the values shown in Table 6 should not be construed as a guaranteed minimum. For any application, it is recommended that sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and fitting manufacturer to assure that performance levels will be safe and satisfactory.

This procedure is intended as a suggested method for both suppliers and end users. The only variables selected by the supplier or user of the friction system are: Friction material Fluid Reaction plates Oil flow (optional) These four variables must be clearly identified when reporting the results of this test.

For grit, this number corresponds with the sieve designation of the nominal test sieve with the prefix G added. These sieves are in accordance with ASTM E11. The accompanying shot and grit classifications and size designations were formulated by representatives of shot and grit suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and automotive users.

The use of such materials, including maximum percent, must be specified using a “Z” suffix. This classification system covers thermoset High Consistency Elastomers (HCEs) only. Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) materials are classified using SAE J2558. Silicone Formed In Place Gasket (FIPG) systems such as Room Temperature Vulcanized (RTV) Silicones, and Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) systems are classified using ASTM F2468.

Electroplating is a process whereby an object is coated with one or more relatively thin, tightly adherent layers of one or more metals. It is accomplished by placing the object to be coated on a plating rack or a fixture, or in a basket or in a rotating container in such a manner that a suitable current may flow through it, and then immersing it in a series of solutions and rinses in planned sequence. The advantage to be gained by electroplating may be considerable; broadly speaking, the process is used when it is desired to endow the basis material (selected for cost, material conservation, and physical property reasons) with surface properties it does not possess. It should be noted that although electroplating is the most widely used process for applying metals to a substrate, they may also be applied by spraying, vacuum deposition, cladding, hot dipping, chemical reduction, mechanical plating, etc.

Stud ends in accordance with this part of SAE J1926 may be used at working pressures up to 35 MPa for nonadjustable and adjustable stud ends. The permissible working pressure depends upon materials, design, working conditions, application, etc. For threaded ports and stud end specified in new designs for hydraulic fluid power applications, only ISO 6149 shall be used. Threaded ports and stud ends in accordance with ISO 1179, ISO 9974, and ISO 11926 shall not be used for new design in hydraulic fluid power applications. Conformance to the dimensional information does not guarantee rated performance.

The code has been kept flexible to permit expansion to cover new fitting categories or styles and, if the need develops, the inclusion of additional materials. The system is also compatible with automatic data processing equipment. It is not intended that this code should supersede established systems or means of identification. Therefore, it should be the prerogative of the user to apply the code which best satisfies his requirements.

This SAE Recommended Practice describes an evaluation procedure for validating tire models for use in road load simulations and assesses the relevant dynamic behavior of tires. The laboratory test utilized is a “cleat” test, where a rolling tire on a drum encounters a cleat and the resulting dynamic forces and moments are measured. This test is described in SAE J2730, “Dynamic Cleat Test with Perpendicular and Inclined Cleats”. The test is commonly used to identify tire model parameters. In this recommended practice, requirements for the measurement of the tire’s response are described along with data processing techniques and calculations used to quantitatively compare the tire model’s calculated response to the tire’s response measured on test. This recommended practice addresses both the tire model structure and its parameters.
