2020-01-0260
An efficient approach to classify time series physical measurement data of shift control of automatic transmission for vehicles is presented. Comfortable acceleration is the essential factor of today’s vehicles. Shift control of automatic transmission of vehicles directly contributes to the comfortable acceleration. Since calibration of automatic transmission of vehicles is time consuming task for expert engineers, the development of autonomous calibration is desired to reduce product development period in today’s competitive automobile market. In the stage of product development, it is difficult to obtain a large amount of physical measurement data. Therefore, we need to develop machine learning method for limited amount of data. For this purpose, we develop the method to classify time series measurement data of shift control of automatic transmission of vehicles. We use support vector machine (SVM) as a machine learning technique.

2018-04-03
2018-01-0397
This paper presents CAE method enhancement which realizes time domain gear noise simulation to practical use for AISIN AW automatic transmission assembly model. Today, vehicle electrification has been accelerating due to severe fuel consumption regulations. Furthermore, as quietness of interior noise of vehicle is improving, further gear noise reduction of A/T is imperative. Currently, as one of the countermeasures for realizing lightweight and NV reduction, we apply elongate holes in gear flange. Although the effect of gear noise reduction is confirmed in evaluations, the mechanism for this gear noise reduction by the elongate holes has not been clarified completely and the current simulation based on modal analysis with static condition cannot replicate actual NV phenomena of A/T assy. Furthermore, it takes an enormous amount of time and cost since the design study for elongate holes is based on the evaluation results.

Design Study of Lightweight Automatic Transmission Parts for Vehicles Using Level Set-Based Topology Optimization

2016-04-05
2016-01-1386
This paper presents a study on a design methodology for lightweight automatic transmission parts for vehicles. To improve fuel economy of the vehicle, weight reduction is a primary issue when designing automobile parts. Topology optimization, a particularly flexible type of structural optimization method, is an effective tool for developing lightweight designs. However, topology optimization methods available in most commercial software often provide optimization results that include grayscale areas, which cause the designs to be impractical from an engineering and manufacturing standpoint. To overcome this difficulty, we apply a level set-based topology optimization method that yields clear optimal configurations and therefore facilitates further improvement of the product design by engineers. In addition, we consider the imposition of a uniform cross-section constraint to improve the manufacturability of the obtained optimization results.

2016-01-1378
Efficient method to solve large-scale eigenvalue problem in vibration is presented. NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) performance is an important quality measure of vehicles. Therefore, the reduction of vibration is one of the key considerations of new automatic transmission design. In addition, reduction of product design time is another important requirement. Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) is becoming a more important methodology to reduce product design time. However, computational time of eigenvalue problem takes long. We propose parallel eigenvalue computation (Sakurai-Sugiura method) for large-scale eigenvalue problems. This method has a good parallel scalability according to a hierarchical structure of the method. As the demonstrative problem, we consider large-scale computation of eigenvalue problem for AISIN AW FWD automatic transmission.

2008-01-0535
Toyota has developed a new sports shift control system introduced in the world's first eight-speed automatic transmission (AA80E), which is implemented in the “LS 460” and has been adopted in the “IS F” (upcoming 2008 model). This enables the IS F to be a vehicle that also permits the enjoyment of driving on circuits as well as achieving that “fun-to-drive” image. In sports driving, as achieved by the conventional torque converter-type automatic transmissions, shift response performance for shift operation and linearity performance for accelerator operations were challenges to tackle. On the contrary, the newly developed sports shift control system has resolved these challenges and enables the IS F to be capable of responding to a driver's intention quickly and accurately, letting the driver truly experience satisfaction.

2007-01-0243
It has been past over 10 years since the slip-controlled clutch has adopted to torque converters as improvement technology of fuel consumption. In the recent trend, the updated demand is use of expanded slipping control for further improvement of the transmission efficiency. However, there are the cases of vibration issues in slip-controlled torque converter clutches. This issue is called shudder as typical problem of vehicle vibration. In design of torque converter, it is known as the importance to manage μ -V property preventing from shudder vibration. However, it was difficult to predict μ -V property on the actual system, because of its complex interface phenomena are caused by various changeable factors include physical and chemical. Therefore, if prototype design was never satisfied anti- shudder properties, we need to change design and lost much time to redesign it.

2005-01-0555
AISIN AW has developed a new transmission control module (hereinafter referred to as “TCM”), which can be applied to the world wide FWD 6-speed automatic transmission (hereinafter referred to as “A/T”). This newly developed TCM can contribute to the whole vehicle system as it is integrated to mechanical A/T in the meaning of ‘hardware’, and completed and ensured the functions in the A/T system. This TCM allows us to greatly reduce the number of the wire harness and the connector, and the space for installing TCM, which are required for the conventional style: A/T and TCM are separately installed, so that it can contribute to fuel economy, weight saving, utilization of the space in the engine room and cost reduction. Our Integrated TCM on A/T integrates the functions with the conventional neutral safety switch (hereinafter referred to as “N.S.S/W”) for detecting shift position, so that it allows compact installation to the limited space on A/T.

AISIN AW has developed a new FWD 6-speed automatic transmission “TF-80SC” for luxury cars with high torque engines. This newly developed automatic transmission (A/T) is based on the concept of the FWD 6-speed A/T “TF-60SN” that we have already introduced to the world market. The basic concept for the 6-speed A/T is to achieve weight saving and compact as well as better fuel efficiency and driving performance in comparison with conventional 5-speed A/Ts. Of course the shift feel must be the top level in the world, so we increased torque capacity of the TF-80SC to cover luxury cars with high torque engine. One of the outstanding features of the A/T is an advanced band brake that allows simultaneous pursuits of high capacity, weight saving, size reduction and high efficiency as well as high-quality shift feeling qualified for luxury cars. This paper describes the advantages and structure of the new A/T with a focus on our approach to new technology of the band brake system.
