Fire Containment Cover - Design, Performance, and Testing Requirements

2021-12-13
CURRENT
AS6453A
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies the minimum design and performance criteria and testing methods of fire containment covers (FCCs) used either: a In those cargo compartments of civil transport aircraft where they constitute one means of complying with applicable airworthiness regulations, or b On a voluntary basis, when deemed appropriate by operators to improve fire protection in aircraft cargo compartments where airworthiness regulations do not mandate their use.

Vehicle Transport Unit Load Device (ULD)

2020-11-30
CURRENT
ARP1554D
The tests are static in nature to minimize complexity and cost of required testing facilities. As far as practical, applied static loads should take into account the combined static and dynamic loads anticipated in service. It is intended that tests shall be non-destructive in nature and not result in damage unless ultimate load conditions are employed. Test equipment and methods of testing described are not meant to be restrictive. Alternate equivalent methods to accomplish the desired results may be employed. In selected cases, tests may be repeated under ultimate load conditions when required for substantiation of analytical data. If this becomes necessary, the parts deformed may be removed and replaced prior to the retest.

Fire Resistant Container Design, Performance, and Testing Requirements

2020-10-27
CURRENT
AS8992
This Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies the minimum design and performance criteria and testing methods of passive fire resistant containers (FRCs) used either: a In those cargo compartments of civil transport aircraft where they constitute one means of complying with applicable airworthiness regulations, or b On a voluntary basis, when deemed appropriate by operators to improve fire protection in aircraft cargo compartments where airworthiness regulations do not mandate their use.

Air Cargo Unit Load Devices - Performance Requirements and Test Parameters

2020-09-29
CURRENT
AS36100C
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) defines the minimum performance requirements and test parameters for air cargo unit load devices requiring approval of airworthiness for installation in an approved aircraft cargo compartment and restraint system that complies with the cargo restraint requirements of Title 14 CFR Part 25, except for the 9.0-g forward ultimate inertia force of § 25.561 (b)(3)(ii).

General Requirements for Powered Drive Units (PDUs) in Aircraft Cargo Systems

2019-10-02
CURRENT
AIR4165B
This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) is intended to assist the user (aircraft manufacturer/airline) in the following areas: a In the decision of whether or not to plan for the installation of a powered drive system in the cargo loading system (CLS) during the definition of the aircraft on-board cargo loading system. b If a powered drive system is decided upon, to provide general requirements to be considered during the preparation of component specifications for the powered drive units (PDUs) to be used. This provides a selection of criteria in order to obtain an optimum PDU for the application considered.

Environmental Degradation of Textiles

2019-04-24
CURRENT
AIR1490C
Since cargo restraint devices made with textiles should have a predictable service life, there should be data available so that predictions can be made. This document compiles available information on textiles of the types used in air cargo restraint devices and reviews the degradation characteristics of each. Textiles are used primarily in cargo restraint nets on air cargo pallets and nonstructural containers, restraint nets installed in cargo aircraft, and similar applications.

Air Cargo Pallets - Utilization Guidelines

2019-04-01
CURRENT
ARP5486
Air cargo pallets and their cargo restraint nets constitute aircraft Unit Load Devices, defined by industry standards and airworthiness certified based on Technical Standard Order (TSO) C90c in accordance with the requirements of NAS 3610. This guarantees their design to be intrinsically safe for flight on board compatible aircraft types. However, actual flight safety also requires these certified pieces of equipment to be properly used: numerous occurrences have demonstrated a certified ULD can nevertheless jeopardize flight safety if loaded or restrained in an inadequate manner.

Aircraft On Board Weight and Balance System Requirements

2018-10-18
CURRENT
ARP1409C
This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) establishes requirements for the function, characteristics, and installation of an aircraft On Board Weight and Balance System (OBWBS) for use on civil transport aircraft. This document is not intended to specify design methods, mechanisms, or material to accomplish the requirements set forth.

Environmental Degradation of Composite Materials

2018-10-18
CURRENT
ARP6287
In accordance with § 4.11 of AS36100, materials used in the construction of pallets, nets, and containers shall take into account the effects of environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and UV degradation, expected in service. In accordance with (E)TSO-C90, the applicant shall consider environmental degradation due to aging, ultra-violet (UV) exposure, weathering, etc., for any materials used in the construction of pallets, nets, and containers. The purpose of this Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide guidelines for the basic requirements to be considered regarding environmental degradation effects when qualifying composite materials in the design to fulfill the (E)TSO-C90 Minimum Performance Standard. Material qualification is the verifying of a materials attributes and characterizations, which are typically determined through testing.

Certified Containers for Lower Deck Compartments

2018-10-18
CURRENT
AS5896
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers the design, fabrication, performance, and testing requirements for general-purpose, base-restrained, containers requiring airworthiness approval for installation/use in aircraft lower deck compartments. See 10.1 and 10.2.

Shipping Caps, Covers and Plugs

2017-11-06
CURRENT
ARP5862
The primary purpose of the shipping closure is to protect the aircraft parts or system from damage and foreign material ingress/egress (e.g., dust, dirt or other contaminants) during transport and storage. Shipping closures are not airworthy items. Therefore, their usage is defined as preventative for the parts to be protected as opposed to operational. Military and commercial customer requirements for the prevention of damage or contamination to stored parts are generally limited to the generic instructions “all openings should be sufficiently covered to prevent the entrance of dust, dirt, moisture or other foreign contaminants”. This recommended practice outlines basic minimum parameters for suggested item construction and usage. Additionally, this recommended practice provides instruction on how to apply these closures to various openings.
